Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Fiona came to the Bay as a toddler. After graduating from FWCI, and getting her HB Commerce degree at LU, Fiona started at Thunder Bay Television as a commercial writer in 1996. 'Some kids dreamed about being on tv; I dreamed about working behind the camera.'
In 2000, she added the weather to her list of duties. 'I was hired on a ‘temporary’ basis, sometimes as the main weather reporter, sometimes as a back-up. I think I’m the longest running ‘temporary’ weatherperson the station has ever had!'
Over the years, she earned the CANPRO Gold Award for the PSA 'Not My Child' along with various commercial awards. But her biggest thrill was producing the Mother’s Day Telethon from 2002 to 2005.
Fiona loves the variety of her job. 'As a producer, I get to be creative when I write and edit, but I also get to plan, strategize, coordinate and delegate with all the contests, shows, and features I do. Then as an interviewer, I meet some of the most active and interesting residents in Thunder Bay!'
Away from work, she keeps busy with various volunteer activities and her furry roommates, Moxie and Toby.
You can watch Fiona weeknights during the TBT News Hour, and on Around Town, What’s Happening, Pet of the Week and WeatherWise.
Don't ever question the value of volunteers. Noah's Ark was built by volunteers; the Titanic was built by professionals. -- Dave Gynn, Coleman Professional Service
